72% BIOBASED | ORIGIN is the happy result of our goal to combine a natural fiber base with a water and biobased coating plus biomass waste.
As Portugal is one of the world's largest producers of olive oil, olive pits represent an abundant residue bound for elimination. Instead, we developed a coating formulation using olive residues and components derived from sugar cane and corn production residues. Applied to a cotton base, this leads to a more sustainable product without compromising its quality and performance. Waste is recycled into a soft, durable fabric, perfect for footwear and upholstery.
Using local raw materials adds to the reduction of the carbon footprint of these products.
The 72% bio-based carbon was determined according to ASTM D6866, expressing the amount of carbon form biological source versus carbon from fossil synthetic sources.
